Bloomberg reported today that Ziraat, one of Turkey’s largest banks, will no longer do business with Venezuela as a result of financial sanctions placed against the Maduro regime by the United States.
According to the website, Ziraat–which is owned by the Turkish government–is closing its account with the Banco Central de Venezuela (Venezuelan Central Bank, BCV), a move that could prove devastating for Caracas. The article states:
Venezuela’s Central Bank was relying on Ziraat to pay contractors, move money and import products in Turkish liras. A Venezuela Central Bank press official didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Padrino Lopez Visits Russia, Pens Agreement with Moscow
Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez was in Russia today to sign a military agreement with Moscow.
According to TASS, the agreement involves “visits by military ships to the ports of both countries.”
