The Foro Penal Venezolano [Venezuelan Penal Forum, FPV) issued an updated figure of political prisoners in the country today, placing the number at 550. The update came via the FPV’s president, Alfredo Romero, through his official Twitter account.

In the tweet, Romero included a graphic showing the demographic makeup of the country’s 550 political prisoners:

According to the FPV, of the 550 people in regime jails for political reasons today:

  • 12 are teenagers
  • 443 are civilians
  • 498 are men

The FPV maintains the most accurate and up-to-date list of political prisoners in the country, and regularly provides updates on its data. The organization also sends this information to the Organization of American States (OAS) on a regular basis.

Guaido Stresses Norway’s Leadership Role in Talks

Following reports that the talks between the opposition and the Maduro regime were set to resume some time this week on the island of Barbados under the auspices of the Norwegian country, Juan Guaido stressed today the Scandinavian nation’s leadership role in the process.

Speaking from the National Assembly earlier today, Guaido would not confirm whether a new round of talks was imminent as reported yesterday, and instead focused attention on the Norwegian role in the negotiation. He said:

It is the government of Norway that will officially communicate any new meeting.

Guaido also said that he hopes that the opposition will “gain ground on every front” in future talks.
