A video was uploaded to Twitter today by La Patila’s Roman Camacho (@RCamachoPatilla) showing a tense situation in the Bicentenario supermarket in Palo Verde, Caracas.

In the video, a large crowd of people can be seen and heard clamoring around what appears to be the front gate to establishment’s parking lot. Five officers – possibly from the National Bolivarian Police – begin to slowly slide the gate open, at which point the desperate crowd attempts to pour in. At that moment, one of the officers discharges his firearm into the air, scattering the crowd.

The video can be seen below:

Camacho told El Nacional that the crowd was thrown into a frenzy once word spread that chicken and beef had arrived at the Bicentenario.

Another video uploaded to the La Patilla YouTube channel shows the line up outside the Bicentenario, although it’s not clear if the video was taken before or after the previous one:

La Patilla reports that customers were limited to 2 kilograms of meat and chicken per person.

Makro in Valencia Looted

Another video uploaded to YouTube today allegedly shows a crowd of people looting the Makro supermarket in Valencia earlier today:

Marcos Morin Aguirre (@Mmorin_informa), a journalist at the scene, said that at least 12 people were taken into custody.

Yhonny Bolivar Formally Charged for Urquiola’s Death

Yhonny “El Capitan” Bolivar has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of Adriana Urquiola on March 23, 2014. Rosalba Perez was injured during the same event.

On March 23 of last year, the bus Urquiola was riding in came across a guarimba (a makeshift barricade) in Los Nuevos Teques, Miranda state. Since the road was impassable, Urquiola and the other passengers exited the bus to continue their journeys on foot. At the same time, a car carrying Yhonny Bolivar was in the area. Bolivar claims that he felt threatened by the protesters guarding the guarimba, at which time he discharged a pistol he was carrying. Urquiola was struck by a bullet and died on the scene.

Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz made the announcement regarding Bolivar’s arraignment today. She also announced that the trial for two National Guard officers charged in the death of Geraldine Moreno, a protesters killed in Valencia last year, began on Friday.

Moreno was murdered on the night of February 19 of last year during a protest in Naguanagua, Carabobo state.
