Maduro met with some of his cabinet in the Miraflores Palace to iron out the details of his government’s economic platform ahead of a busy week at the National Assembly. Maduro said that it was Venezuela’s time to “generate her own riches”, and said that he had high hopes for the newly-created Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, which he was sure could make Venezuela “a powerhouse of fishing for internal consumption and exporting”.
Maduro said:
It’s a fishing and aquaculture revolution (…) we have to produce everything that we eat with our own hands.
Maduro also said that he was ready to give the National Assembly an economic emergency package, which he would present on Tuesday., stressing that Venezuela was living through “a real economic emergency”. He said that the package would centre around ways to combat the sabotage and “economic war” he maintains are responsible for the situation.
Turning to the MUD’s electoral victory on December 6, Maduro said:
If they [the MUD] held power here, and if they had the ability to repress, we’d have a Pinochet here killing, torturing and putting and end to our youth. Be sure of that. That’s the same fascist hatred (…) and they don’t understand this country. I really think that the right wing does not understand what happened in December. And they will never understand.
