Diosdado Cabello devoted some of the time on his weekly television show, Con El Mazo Dando, to attack Polar Enterprises CEO Lorenzo Mendoza. During the show, Cabello insinuated that Mendoza is a “disgusting human being” due to the fact that at least one supermarket in the country appears to be well-stocked with basic necessities.

Below, a video of Cabello’s comments along with my translation:

Cabello: I have a picture here that a cooperating compatriot sent me. You know that there’s been a problem recently where people can’t find products in supermarkets, right? Today, this cooperating compatriot was at a supermarket and said, “Look, what this supermarket had, Diosdado!”. Margarine – it’s like I’m doing a commercial for these products, right? – mayonnaise and butter. Polar. But this is a coincidence. What do you think about this? Today, look at this [points to picture of boxes]. How long has it been since they brought out margarine here? Ah, it’s because of the economic war!

I’m not lying – look! And they have flour, and look! Even butter. This supermarket even has butter. Look at this buggy – Polar, Polar, Polar, Polar, more Polar — look! This is Maceite [brand] oil! It has appeared!

Wow, Mr. Mendoza. Wow. Look at all the flour this man has in his buggy, and he can buy it without any problems. My God. Look at this. My God. They’re conspirators against the people! What a bunch of disgusting human beings. Disgusting human beings. Some day, sooner rather than later… don’t tell me I didn’t warn you.

Cabello also suggested that the MUD promised to make the line ups disappear immediately upon their election:

The counter-revolution won here. Among its electoral promises – which they’ve already started to break – you’ll remember that they said that the last line would happen on December 6. There would be no more line ups. December 6 would be the last one. Now they’re saying, “No, Nicolas is the one who makes the lines, he’s the President”.

On what the new National Assembly would do once it is sworn in on January 5, Cabello said:

Now, the people are going to be punished. [The MUD will] take away their pensions, their homes — there won’t be any medicine.

Flores’ Trial Continues

The trial of Cilia Flores’ nephews, Efrain Flores and Franqui Francisco Flores, entered a new stage last Friday as a judge in New York City’s South District authorized the disclosure of all evidence to the defense. Now that the Flores’ know the evidence against them, they will be able to begin formulating their defense to the allegations that they attempted to smuggle 800 kilograms of cocaine into the United States.

The Flores cousins were arrested by DEA agents in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti on November 10, as part of an investigation into a drug trafficking operation the two men are alleged to be a part of. A grand jury in the state of New York accepted the claim that the men were trying to smuggle 800 kilograms of cocaine into the United States from Venezuela. The cousins previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

El Nacional, which claims to have viewed the evidence disclosure documents, claims that the prosecutor is relying on “electronic communications” as evidence, including incriminating wiretapped conversations.

The two men are currently in detention at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in Manhattan, New York.

Susana Barreiros Promoted to Public Defender

Susana Barreiros, the judge who sentenced Leopoldo Lopez to nearly 14 years in prison at the end of a highly controversial trial in September, was promoted today to lead the role of Defensora Publica General [General Public Defender]. The body Barreiros now heads is responsible for providing public defenders – free or charge – to anyone accused of a crime in the country.

Barreiros sentenced Lopez to prison after a politically-charged trial. Franklin Nieves, one of the prosecutors in the case, said that he fabricated evidence against Lopez, and that Barreiros received orders from superiors to convict Lopez by any means necessary.

Hermes Garcia, a MUD National Assembly deputy, spoke on Barreiros’ appointed, saying:

This proposal made today by the [PSUV] leaves us speechless. Proposing that Barreiros head the General Public Defender’s office is offensive for all of us. This is a person whose ethics and morals are profoundly questionable.
