Six people are currently on a hunger strike in San Cristobal, Tachira. The six are beneficiaries of the Mision Vivienda, the government’s subsidized housing initiative. The hunger strike was started as a way to draw attention to a lack of response from the government with respect to a housing complex of 40 units which, despite having been completed, have yet to be handed out.

Alexander Valero, one of the people on strike, said:

They [the government] are ignoring us [even though] we’re a communal council because they say we just got here, and that’s not the case. It’s been a constant struggle. Five years ago they assigned the land. We want our President Maduro to help us, and if he could come that would be even better. We feel excluded, and apparently there’s a hidden list out there.

Reinaldo Pedroza, a member of the Organizacion Comunal de Vivienda Simon Bolivar de los Alticos commented on the conflict, saying:

The fact that now anyone who criticises [the government] in terms of anything political is labelled a member of the opposition is odd and surprising.

Speaking at a meeting of the G77 nations in Bolivia, Maduro announced yet another conspiracy he claims to have uncovered, this time involved the United States and Venezuela’s oil. Maduro explained:

We can now see how the empire of the north conspires against independent countries of the world. Where do those terrorist groups come from? Who finances them and feeds them? There’s a conspiracy in our homeland to justify an imperial intervention with the sole objective of taking over the planet’s largest oil reserve. The truth of Venezuela repudiates interventionism.

It is unclear if Maduro is talking about a brand new conspiracy, of if this is part of one of several conspiracies he claims to have uncovered in the past. He did not offer any evidence for his claims.

On the topic of scarcity, La Patilla has some interesting pictures showing Venezuelans lined up at various supermarkets around the country. Venezuela is currently undergoing a scarcity crisis, meaning that even the most basic necessities are sometimes impossible to find in stores.

Finally, a couple of pictures from Venezuela today.

Demonstrations somewhere in Carabobo state today apparently left at least one person injured today:

There were also confrontations in Ciudad Bolivar:

Some shots of Maduro at the G77 meeting today:

Nude cyclists took over the streets of Caracas today in commemoration of World Naked Bike Ride day, which is apparently a thing that exists:
